An addendum to Witnesses: A Class Of Being That Might Exist

Look. I...you got part of it right, but-

What you wrote? You missed something. You missed something really important.

You missed out why we need to leave.

Here's the truth of it; we hate our Eide.

You know how what makes someone a Strategist is that their Wyrd's all turned in on itself and trying to kill them? Pretty sure I've heard that's common knowledge. Well, what makes someone a Witness is, our Eide is bloated and sick. It's like kudzu-it chokes everything else.

Even when it makes of us heroes-and it doesn't, always-just as many of us have Eides of wretchedness, stupidity, poverty, or cruelty-it locks us in place, gives us a role we can't change and can't avoid, and that never fits quite right. We need to be more than our mask. We can't.

We can't help making everything about ourselves. It just happens. It happens, and it stops us from ever seeing anything or anyone as other than a reflection of us.

At least, that's the case in the Void. In Creation? We can control our Eide, to a degree, because Creation stands up to us in a way the Void doesn't. The solid truth of Estates and Laws holds back our dreams-of-self. In Creation, I can see you. I can have a fucking conversation with you and hear what you're actually saying. In the Void? I wouldn't be able to hear anything but the words I'd expect you to say.

Hell, if I didn't expect you to be there, I couldn't even see you. Nothing can surprise us, in the Void.

Do you see why we can't live like that?

I'm not saying you have to like us. Most of us are assholes. As I said, we can't help that. We're self-absorbed by nature.

But don't say our hatred of the Void is unwarranted.
